Loretta Lynn's Ranch, Tennessee.....April 2012

After leaving the Natchez Trace Bob and Jean went to Nashville to see the Grand Ole Opry.  Gary and I were at the Opry in 2001 so we decided that since we were in the area we would visit Loretta Lynn on her ranch.  We drove to Hurricane Mills and stayed there overnight.  First we visited the Plantation House and then we walked around the town of Hurricane Mills that is on her ranch.   The plantation house was built in 1850 by a Confederate soldier.  Apparently the house is supposed to be haunted but we didn't see any ghosts while we were there.  The house was sold to a rich gentleman in 1896 and he installed electricity.  It was the first house to have electricity.  People came for miles to see the house lite up at night.  In the 1960's Loretta and Mooney Lynn bought the Plantation.  It had 3,500 acres.  Now the plantation has over 6,500 acres.

This was our last major stop before crossing the border to home.........

Travelling home on the Natchez Trace....April 2012

Now it is time to start our trek northbound.  We left Gulf Shores, Alabama and drove to the Natchez Trace.  We got on the Trace in Jackson, Mississippi and drove north.  The trace is a walking path from the 1700's.  The Natchez Trace goes from Natchez, Mississippi to Nashville, Tennessee.  There are 3 free campgrounds on the Natchez Trace and we stayed in 2 of them.  It is a wonderful drive.....

Fun with Bob and Jean...Gulf Shores, Alabama....2012

Gary turned 70 years of age in Gulf Shores.  We celebrated by going out for dinner and then a crazy round of dominoes and then cards.....lots of laughs.

The next day we drove to a wonderful little artsy town called Fairhope.  We enjoyed the rose gardens, did some antiquing and enjoyed the walk around town.

Love the signs at Gulf Shores, Alabama...April 2012

We Made it to Gulf Shores, Alabama....March 2012

It took 3 weeks travelling on the road with Rodney and Sharon to reach Gulf Shores, Alabama.  It was such a fun 3 weeks tripping with them.  Now it was time to hit the beach and relax.  Afterwards we had a nice bbq.  What a great day!!

Texas....March 2012

We are now on the road moving through Texas.  It takes days to get through Texas but the scenery is worth it.  It was time to get away from I-10 and explore the less travelled highway....Hwy 90.  Our first stop was Marfa.  Marfa is famous for the mysterious lights that shine around midnight on most nights.  We pulled into a rest area thinking we would have a quitet night but around 8:00pm the place filled up with dozens of people to watch for the lights.  Unfortunately we didn't see the mysterious lights but we did have a beautiful sunset.  The next day we continued east and stopped at the Pecos River just east of Langtry, Texas.  We have stopped to view the Pecos River different times and this is the first time we have seen the river so high.....
